Georgetown University Hospital is a 609-licensed bed hospital with 1,100 physicians. It is the first hospital in the district to be awarded "Magnet Status" by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). This coveted international award earned by healthcare organizations providing the best nursing care and practices has only been achieved by fewer than two percent of hospitals nationwide.
Founded in 1898 to promote health through education, research and patient care, the current Georgetown University Hospital opened in 1947. Originally, the hospital was located at 35th and N Streets, N.W. In 2000, Georgetown and MedStar Health finalized a clinical partnership agreement under which MedStar owns, operates, and has financial responsibility for Georgetown university's clinical enterprise.
